I don't like the Cure. I don't like the side of the Cure that everybody usually likes, i find "A forest" or "Charlotte Sometimes" so boring. When i was 19, my boyfriend at that time used to listen only 3 bands : the Smiths, the Cocteau Twins and the Cure... I remember those long week-ends listening to Pornography or Seventeen Seconds : awful and boring...
One day, i was searching for new sounds in his records collection and i was catched by a pink cover with a fridge and a vacuum cleaner : Three Imaginary Boys.
The first album of the Cure is released in 1979, has a punk energy, more catchy than the whole Cure's discography.
The Cure - Three Imaginary Boys (1979)
I have to confess I like The Cure (even the darker and boring period)! My sister saw them at Bercy a few years ago.

Even though I listened to them a lot when I was a kid....I tend to agree with you on the Cure.
RépondreSupprimerLike the Smiths, I've tried to listen to them recently and I couldn't get into it all.
There are exceptions...Love Cats is good, A Walk and Just Like Heaven is a great pop song. As an aside the Close To Me/No Scrubs (TLC) mash up is out of this world.
That first album is good...and that's gotta be one of the best covers ever. I guess they hated it though...shame.
you should try The Top (1984) and the side project post-Pornography called The Glove (1983), which are more electronic and psychedelic than the previous ones...
